One of the world’s leading music studios has set its sights on Miami, with the help of a Grammy-winning Colombian music producer.

Abbey Road Studios, where legendary bands like The Beatles and Pink Floyd recorded their albums, will open its first U.S. music school in Miami in partnership with the Miami Art House Studio, a recording studio founded by top music producer Julio Reyes Copello, who has worked with stars like Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony.

“I want to see how all these (student) artists that we discover, after giving them an honest training, start having a responsible mission within the entertainment industry,” Copello said in Spanish during an interview with The Associated Press at his studio this week. “I want to see (student) artists coming out of here with the sensibility, creating music that inspires.”

The project is an extension of the Abbey Road Institute, a music production education program held at the Abbey Road Studios in London.

“The Latin music industry and Latin talent are very important and we recognize Miami as the hub,” Luca Barassi, CEO of the Abbey Road Institute, said in a statement to the AP. “Working with Julio and his team brings together their depth of knowledge and experience with Latin music with our comprehensive and relevant curriculum.”

Starting in September, Copello will mentor a group of 10 students at the Miami Art House Studio.

Due to its proximity to Latin America and its connecting flights with the region, Miami is home to numerous music studios and Latin American hubs of major record companies like Sony and Universal. The Latin Recording Academy, which presents the Latin Grammy awards, is also based in Miami.

“There is an interest in the influence that the Latin music is having in the world,” Copello said.

Besides London, the Abbey Road Institute has campuses across Europe in Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris and Amsterdam, and in Melbourne and Johannesburg.
